PACKAGE DESIGN

PACKAGE DESIGN-planning and fashioning the complete form and structure of a product’s package. In creating a new design or revamping an existing design, the following aspects of a product’s package are usually reviewed: size and shape, color, closure, outside appearance, protection and economy, convenience, labeling, and the packaging materials effects on the environment. The best packaging system is then developed by careful evaluation of a product, market competition, and existing product line. Generally speaking, package re-designing is done one element at a time, to preserve the brand loyalty of existing customers.

Packaging design is started when advertising agencies work with companies to make an effective design for their products. Package design if its good or bad depends on how it looks to the consumer.

Customers are drawn to products that look good. Something with a good and interesting design is bound to attract more people rather than a package that is poorly designed.

For example, advertising agencies know that when they make a package design for cereals they put cartoon characters on cereal marketed towards children, and they put fresh fruit and grains for cereals gears towards adults. Package design not only promotes the product but it also protects it through transport, and in the actual store its sold in. One of the most important things to consider in package design is the protection it gives the product.

All package design is different depending on the product it can be simple and very straight forward or it could be very complex and colorful. Simplicity sells in package design because the consumer wants to get information quickly and easily. Other than simplicity customers want honesty and authenticity when it comes to what they are buying. Also, consumers want to associate the product with something positive and the package design is the first thing that comes to their mind.
