Movie Poster Research

7 Elements of Great Movie poster Design:

1. Attention-  grabbing the attention of passers-by and encouraging them to look.
2. Iconography- whether a close-up of a character or item that’s a major plot point, or a simple graphic, to establish the film’s plot
3. Interest- the person looking at the poster needs to see the film and find out what happens.
4. Appeal- create desire with fans and non-fans alike.
5. Style-  most memorable film posters out there have used bold, unique artistic styles to their advantage.
6. Lasting Appeal- a look that suits other formats.
7. Recognizability- if it’s a sequel, make it obvious.

Poster Inspiration

I want to gain the style and the iconography of these posters I grabbed for inspiration. I want my movie ads to be simple and really eye catching for my audience which is 7-14 year olds. I want the ads to attract the viewer and make them want to read the book and see the film.

For my book ad I wanted to make it fun since it is a book targeted to a young, youthful, and fun audience. But like the ads I gathered to the left and below I want to make it simplistic and straight to the point.
